Sri Aroor Laxminarayana Rao Memorial Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital, Koppa was established in 1987 by renowned industrialist and social reformer, Sri Aroor Ramesh Rao under the auspices of Aroor Educational Trust (Regd), Koppa with the object of imparting quality Ayurvedic education and providing health services to people in and around the Malnad Belt.

The Society runs a charitable 125 bedded Ayurvedic Hospital at Quardhitlow, an estate area 8 k.m. from koppa town and a separate Aids Community Centre of 10 beds have enlarged the scope of the hospital. Three O.P.D units; in Thirthahalli, 25 k.m. from Koppa, Sringeri, 30 k.m. from Koppa and another in the heart of Koppa Town have been established for the convenience of the people in these areas.

A pass in HSC/equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Botany and Zoology with a minimum percentage of marks as prescribed by the Govt of Karnataka.

Age limit : Should have completed 17 yrs. at the time of admission.

Admission procedure : Admission will be on the basis of marks obtained in written test to be conducted by the college.


The college library came in existence in the year 1987-88 with a collection of 116 books. Over the years, the number of books kept steadily growing with present status of 9,604 books in various subjects of Ayurveda and other allied subjectsa. Looking to the need of present technical world and availabilities of materials online, a digital library was set and opened for the students from 2008-09 onwards.

Herbal Garden

The Herbal medicinal plants garden of the institute is one of its kinds in the field of Ayurveda. One among the largest in terms of the flora cultivated and propagated which includes many endangered and red listed plants. Established in the new campus in 1995, now more than 520 species of medicinal plants of more than 100 families are grown in an area of 8 acres. Specialized areas of representation like Navagraha Vana started in the year 2001, Nakshatra vana and Shivapanchayatana in the year 2002. Human body is represented by various plants specifically used for the ailments of respective anatomical part.

Herbo-mineral or Mineral drug/s:


Description, Physico-chemical studies, preliminary chemical tests, quanitative estimation of elements by volumetric, gravimetric and instrumental methods (wherever applicable and based on resources) and tests mentioned as per pharmacopoeial standards.

Animal House: 

Animal house equipped with plethysmograph, cook’s pole apparatus, hot plate, analgesiometer, various mazes viz., T-maze, Y-maze etc.; own institutional ethical committee giving ethical permission to conduct various tests e.g., anti-inflammatory test, anti-convulsant test, antipyretic test, anti-diabetic etc.

Pathology Laboratory:

Well constituted pathology laboratory with X-ray machines, auto-analyzer etc. for detailed lipid profile studies, blood tests, urine tests, stool tests etc.
