IndianAgricultural Research Institute was established in the Year 1905 at PUSA,Bihar. It’s original name before 1947 was Imperial Agricultural ResearchInstitute. After the Independence the name was changed to Indian AgriculturalResearch Institute. In the year 1936 due to a massive earth quake it wasshifted to Pusa, New Delhi. Since Independence IARI, is a premier institute forAgricultural Research and was instrumental in 1960-70 Green Revolutions. TheIndian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) is the country s premier nationalInstitute for agricultural research, education and extension. It has served thecause of science and society with distinction through first rate research,generation of appropriate technologies and development of human resources. Infact, the Green Revolution was born in the fields of IARI and our graduates constitutethe core of the quality human resource in India s agricultural research andeducation. The Institute has all along been adjusting and improving itspolicies, plans and programmes to effectively respond to the needs andopportunities of the nation. During the fifties, the advancement of scientificdisciplines constituted the core programme and provided the base for its fastexpansion in the 1960 s and 1970 s in all its three interactive areas, namely,research, education and extension. Besides basic research, applied andcommodity research gained great importance resulting in the development ofseveral popular high yielding varieties of almost all major crops and theirassociated management technologies, which brought about an unprecedentedincrease in the national food and agricultural production.

The College offers two years full time courses in Master of Science in Agriculture.

 Eligibility: Thecandidate should have passed Bachelor's degree or equivalent from any recognizeduniversity. The admissions will be based on the basis of entrance examconducted by the university .      

CampusFacilities: Locatedabout 8 km west of the New Delhi Railway Station, about 7 km west of KrishiBhawan, which houses the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), andabout 22 km north-east of Indira Gandhi International Airport at Palam. Thelocation stands at 28.080N and 77.120E, the height above mean sea level being229 metres (750 feet). The present campus of IARI is a self-containedaesthetically laid out sylvan complex spread over an area of about 500 ha.

Library Facilities: IARI Library is one of the largest and the finest aerobiologicallibraries in South East Asia housing a total of 6 lakh publications including 1lakh books/monographs, 3,50,000 journal volumes, 45,000 bulletins, 15,000 postgraduate theses, 10,000 pamphlets, 30,000 news clippings, 30,000 reports, andother reference materials. The Library has, on its role, 2000 members, viz.,students, scientists and technical staff. It also serves about 8,000 visitorsevery year.


Hostel Facilities: IARI is a fully residential campus for the students.Institute has Five Hostels for Boys, one for Girls and one hostel is formarried students. These are spacious, well-furnished hostels. Apart fromhygienic foods, hostels provide recreational facilities including TVs, indoorgames, book shop, hair dressing saloon etc. Each hostel has its own wardens, amember of faculty who administers the hostels. Master of Halls of Residences isthe head of the hostel facility.
