Acharya Prafulla Chandra (APC) Ray Polytechnic, Kolkata  established in 1950 was formally known as Kolkata Silpa Mandir. The name of the college is given after the name of the famous scientist Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray. The college is associated with National Council, Bengal from 1950-1962.


Campus:
  • Total area - 7.61 acres ( Main Campus ).
  • 2nd campus - .61 acres ( Plans to develop P.G. Depts. )
    across Sodepur Road, opposite the Present College
  • Situated on Sodepur Road connecting Jessore Road and Barrackpore Trunk Road. Nearest Railway stations : Madhyamgram on Sealdah-Barasat line, and Sodepur on Sealdah-Naihati line. It takes approximately half an hour to reach Sealdah by train from both these stations.
  • The college is a co educational institution with more than 3000 students.
  • It is a Day Session College held between 10.15a.m. and 5p.m. on Monday to Friday. On Saturday between 10.15a.m. and 2p.m. in the afternoon.

The Students in the College is the vibrant section. They have several facilities in the college. The college grants Free Studentship/ Half-free Studentship to poor but meritorious students. Students who have secured 50% and 45% marks in examination of Board/ Council (or equivalent examination)are eligible to put their application. At least 20% of applicants are granted concession. Students from SC/ST/OBC and minorities are entitled to special stipends. There is also a Students Benevolent Fund to give financial support to poor and meritorious students. Wards of bidi workers in the college can enjoy stipend from the state Government.


The college awards prizes to the students for their academic proficiencies. Apart from all these, the meritorious Students of Bengali ,Political Science and zoology departments are given cash prizes from the Endowment Funds of the College. All the students are card holders of Students Health Home. A medical Unit for students is run by the College. The Students of the college have a Students' Union to voice the demands of the Students, create a healthy academic atmosphere and get involved in the various developments of the college. Beside the annual function in the College, the Annual Sports, Cultural Programmes are also organized by the Union. The publication of the College Magazines are also done by the Students' Union. Apart from this there is a Cheap Canteen for the students.


Almost all the departments , library and college office have access to internet. Institute of Computer Engineers (India) runs a computer centre named “A.P.C.College Computer Centre” in the college premises for all categories of students from inside and out side the institution. These courses here are tailor-made to meet the requirements of enterprising boys and girls. 


A career counseling and placement cell has been formed in the college. Campus interviews are successfully arranged by the College. So far, many reputed companies have held such interviews and short listed probable recruit and other cpmpanies in the state and out side the state are showing interest.


The students have tremendous exposure in their work with the three NSS units in the college. The various activities of the NSS include anti-smoking campaign,cleaning of College premises, tree plantation, gardening, health awareness camps in nearby villages. Students remain active through out the year with all these work. The students also participate in Extension Activities which enable them to have all round development. 


Equal opportunity centre has been set up for the upliftment of SC/ST/OBC, Minorities , Women and Physically challenged.


The College provides the facilities for remedial coaching and free coaching for entry in services to SC/ST/OBC(non creamy layer)/Physically challenged and minorities. 


Sixteen station gym with proper trainer is also functioning. The construction of gymnasium cum auditorium is nearing completion. 


Hostels : Construction of ground floor of the Girls' Hostel has been completed.The construction of first floor of the same hostel is nearing completion


A two storied hostel for SC/ST/OBC boys by the BCW Department is almost complete.
