Indraprastha College for Women is the oldest women's college of theUniversity of Delhi and was founded in 1924 as a part of nation-wide campaignfor women's education and empowerment. Today this prestigious College has anenrolment of over 2670 students and offers a wide range of courses andactivities. Uniquely, it offers the B.A (Hons.) course in Mass Media and MassCommunication (BMMMC) which is ranked among the best in the country. TheCollege ranks in the top ten colleges of the city and the top twenty in thecountry.

In its drive to constantly upgrade infrastructure to meet the demands ofa modern system of education and realize its own vision, the College hasregularly added new facilities to provide a comfortable working environment forits faculty and students. Full power back-up has been provided in theCollege to ensure that all activities are carried out without interruption. Inan ongoing endeavor to create adisabled-friendly environment, the Collegehas barrier free access to existing spaces special toilets, a lift in thelibrary and markers for the visually challenged. Teaching blocks and officeshave been renovated and upgraded.

The College has a fully equipped studio for in-house trainingand production. It has several computer laboratories, a spacious library with alift for PH access. A Book Bank and customized software and reading materialsin Braille for the visually challenged are available in the Library. The ICTCentre with 80 computers is also located in the Library.

The College has an auditorium, seminar rooms, a state-of-the-art conferenceroom and an Audio- Visual Resource Centre. It has excellent sportsinfrastructure with a swimming pool, vast playgrounds and a sprawling multi -facility sports complex. The College also provides basic medical facilities todeal with minor emergencies. It has a Counselor as well as a Career Guidanceand Placement Cell.

TheCollege has two hostels, one funded by the UGC, accommodating 200 students andthe newly constructed Indraprastha College Women's Hostel with 166 seats.

The College offers B.Com.(Bachelor of Commerce) (Hons.).

ADMISSION PROCEDURE

5.Candidates who qualify for admission according to the criteria fixed for agiven course

shouldreport to the Teacher-in-charge of the concerned Department in the allottedroom

on any ofthe designated dates between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm.

HostelFacilities: The Kalavati GuptaHostel, named after a former Principal, was inaugurated in 1952. It providescomfortable and safe lodgings, in picturesque surroundings, for about 200outstation students. The hostel is equipped with a spacious and well-furnishedvisitors' room, a students' common room with facilities for table-tennis, otherindoor games, and a state-of-the-art entertainment unit.

The newly built Indraprastha Hostel across the road providesadditional accommodation for 166 students in well-appointed 2-seater rooms.Thirty seats in this hostel are reserved for students from the North-Easternstates.

Students in both hostels will be in the care of the hostelsuperintendents and wardens who are resident on campus and accessible at alltimes.

 

Computer Lab: The college offers the facility of threecomputer labs equipped with the latest IBM software and operating systems.Though these are meant primarily for the use of students enrolled in theComputer Science and Computer Applications programmes, as well as in theMathematics and Commerce departments, the labs are also accessible to otherstudents.

 

Audio Visual Production Centre: Thecollege took the lead at Delhi University in offering a B.A.(Hons.) course in Mass Media and Mass Communication eight years ago. It,therefore, set up for its use an Audio Visual Production Centre equipped with sophisticated audio/visualrecording and production technology. Indraprastha continues to be theonly college in Delhi University offering the BMMMC programme.Over the years its graduates have made significant contributions to the media industry.

 

Cyber Café: Students can access the Internet from theon-campus cyber cafe, which is open on all working days between 9am To 7pm, andhas ten networked computers. a friendly and helpful staff runs the café.

 

Medical Facilities: Primary medical careis available to students at the Medical Room, located next to the collegehostel. A well-qualified doctor and nurse are on call to provide emergencymedical attention to students during college hours. Besides this, students canavail of medical care at two nearby medical facilities,the Meena Devi Jindal Clinic andthe Sant ParmanandHospital. Students can also access the medical careprovided to them through the World University Service health centre atthe University of Delhi.

 

Canteen: The college canteen behind the main buildingis a hangout favored by students, teachers and the non-teaching staff. Itprovides a variety of vegetarian snacks and hot/cold beverages at affordableprices. Recent renovations, including outdoor seating, have made the canteenmore attractive to students.

 

Other Amenities: The College willsoon be wi-fi enabled, allowing students and teachers free access tothe internet from anywhere on campus. Other facilities available tostudents include the three well-equipped laboratories used by the Psychologydepartment, the auditorium, the students' common room, Canara BankExtension counter, the public telephone booths with STD/ISD facilities, andphotocopy counters.

 

Sports Facilities: The Collegesextensive sports facilities have recently been augmented by the up gradation ofthe two tennis courts and the basketball court into synthetic courts. Amulti-specialty indoor sports centre of international standards has also beenbuilt. This has badminton courts, a squash court, a shooting range, afully-equipped gymnasium, an aerobics training centre, table tennis tables, ajudo floor and provisions for other indoor games. The College alsohas a very large and well- maintained sports field.

The College offers dedicated facilities for a varietyof other sports as well, such as archery, athletics, handball, volleyballetc. Indraprastha is the only women's college in the University withits own hygienically maintained swimming pool. Its scrupulously cleansurroundings, up-to-date facilities and friendly staff make it a popularattraction in the summer months for both learners and swimmers. Coachingfacilities are available for basketball, volleyball, handball, athletics,badminton, table tennis, judo, swimming, cricket and kho-kho.
