The Faculty of Nursing came into existence around the nucleus of Rufaida School of Nursing. It was established by Hakeem Abdul Hameed Saheb in 1983. It became College of Nursing in year 1994 and started B.Sc.(H) Nursing Programme. Jamia Hamdard became Deemed to be University in year 1989. The Rufaida School of Nursing was part of Majeedia Hospital prior to the formation of the Faculty of Nursing. The purpose of establishing the school was to contribute towards overcoming shortage of nurses in the country to some extent. The other aim was to encourage girls from Muslim minority community and weaker sections of the society to take up this noble profession. The objectives with which the faculty was established are:

  • To train and educate nurses at the undergraduate, post-graduate and doctoral levels.
  • To make the nurses pursuing undergraduate course capable of providing sound health care.
  • To assess the nursing needs of individuals, families and the communities throughout life.
  • To work with other members of health team and community in promotion of health, prevention of illness, restoration of health and rehabilitation.
The college offers Master of Science Nursing, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Hons.) and Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery.

  1.  Master of Science in Nursing.
  It's two years degree course.

Admission Criteria:A candidate must have Passed BSc.Nursing / BSc-(Hons) Nursing / Post Basic BSc. Nursing with minimum of 55% aggregate marks from an Institution recognized by Indian Nursing Council. · Undergone training in an Institution recognized by Indian Nursing Council. The applicants for admission to the MSc-Nursing programme shall have to appear in the Entrance test. The test paper will comprise of questions based on BSc-Nursing (Hons.) syllabus of Jamia Hamdard.

  •  2. Bachelor of Science course with specialization in Nursing

     Duration :- 4 yrs

     Admission Criteria:Candidate should have passed passed Senior Secondary (12th Standard/Intermediate) examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English from Central Board of Secondary Education or any other examination recognized by Jamia Hamdard as equivalent thereto securing at least 50% marks in the aggregate of Physics, Chemistry and Biology. An Entrance Test will be conducted by Jamia Hamdard to test the knowledge of the candidates in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and General Awareness. The standard of questions will be based on the qualifying examination, i.e. Senior Secondary/Intermediate.

  • 3. Diploma in General Nursing & Midwifery.

    It's three years and six month compulsory training.

  • Admission Criteria:A candidate must have passed Senior Secondary (12th Standard / Intermediate) examination (any stream) preferably with science subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) from Central Board of Secondary Education or any other examination recognized by Jamia Hamdard as equivalent thereto and have secured at least 40% marks in 10 + 2 examination. The candidate should have studied English at 10t h standard. An Entrance Test will be conducted to test the knowledge of the candidates in Physics, Chemistry, Biology of 10t h standard and General Awareness (General English and Current Affairs) of the level of 10 t h standard. The selection will be made on the basis of the merit determined by the performance of the candidates in the written test only.

  • Infrastructure Overview: The department has well equipped with all the modern facilities.

    Hostel Details: In view of limited hostel accommodations, the candidates should note that their admission to university does not guarantee allotment of hostel accommodation and outstation boys are likely to get hostel accommodation only in the second or third year of their study depending on the programme of study to which they are admitted to. Girl students from outside of Delhi are more likely to get hostel accommodation in the first year itself, subject to availability of seat in the hostel. Annual hostel charges are payable in advance at the time of allotment. It will be incumbent upon the student admitted to the hostel to join the mess and pay mess fee for three months in advance at the rates prescribed from time to time. Mess fee may be revised at any time due to escalation in the prices of essential commodities. The students admitted to the hostel are entitled to stay in the hostel during the academic session only and are required to vacate the rooms during the summer vacations for maintenance work. Hostel allows will not be available to students of following programme. Students are also not allowed to installed air-conditioners or any other electric appliances requiring high energy consumption.

    Laboratory Details:The University has excellent state-of-the-art computing facilities and system analysis units in it's computer centre to cater to needs of students . The computer centre is well equipped with advanced computers along with all the necessary peripherals as well as requisite softwares . There are five different laboratories in the computer centre with facilities for their respective development fields as given below .

    Classrooms Details: All classroom well furnished.

    Library Details:University library system consists of 6 faculty libraries and one Central Library. The Central Library is named as Hakim Mohammad Said (HMS) Central Library. It is located in erstwhile Institute of Islamic Studies building. Five faculty libraries---F/o Science library, F/o Medicine library, F/o Nursing library, F/o Pharmacy library and F/o Medical & Allied Health Sciences library are located in their respective buildings. F/o Islamic Studies library is located in the First Floor of Central Library building.
